German shepherd guards her owner for 6 weeks after he dies

Amazing story. Good read!

In an amazing display of loyalty, officials now believe a German shepherd dog stayed at her master’s side for six weeks after the man had killed himself out on the prairie.

The dog, “Cash,” was found alive Sunday, next to the body of her master, Jake Baysinger, 25, a resident of La Salle before his life ended on the Pawnee National Grassland.

When Baysinger was first reported missing and suicidal on June 28, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive search on land and by airplane, but they were unable to locate Baysinger or his pickup.

Undersheriff Margie Martinez said the pickup was found Sunday near the body, but it was in an area that was difficult to see from the road or air. The Pawnee National Grasslands contains almost 200,000 acres — about one-quarter the size of Rhode Island. He was found near the intersection of Weld County Road 73 and 104, northwest of Briggsdale.

The sheriff’s office and Weld County Coroner’s Office said the body may have been there for six weeks, and the dog stayed close by. There was evidence the dog ate mice and rabbits, officials said.

The body was found Sunday because a rancher saw the dog and went to investigate, finding Baysinger’s body. Baysinger’s gun lay nearby, and it’s believe he shot himself.

On Monday, Sara Baysinger, the victim’s wife, took Cash home with her from the Humane Society of Weld County shelter. “At least we know it’s over now,” Sara Baysinger said. “We’d been looking for my husband for six weeks, and this isn’t how we wanted it to end, at least we can close this.”

Sara Baysinger has a 2-year-old son, Lane, who was happy to see Cash come home. “He’s very close to that dog,” Sara Baysinger said. “He’s very happy to see (Cash).”

The dog was friendly when found, although she was thin and dehydrated, deputies said. She was checked at the humane society, and Baysinger said she had their own vet check the dog, also.

Investigators also said the dog probably protected her master’s body by keeping coyotes away.

Lucky Kids!

Wow, 2 schools really got a huge surprise! The Click 5 visited them!

Popular band makes surprise visits to two schools
By Lynda Hong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 23 October 2007 2146 hrs

SINGAPORE: Screaming fans were seen at St Joseph’s Convent when popular American teen band, The Click Five, paid a surprise visit to the school on Tuesday morning as part of a MediaCorp Radio contest for the most number of The Click Five fans in school.

The students were expecting the band’s autographed merchandise, but got a big surprise when band members turned up in person instead.

Clara Li, a Secondary Four student at St Joseph’s Convent, said: “This is the first time I’m seeing them. It was quite a shock to see them because I thought it was just ‘The Muttons’ who would come and give us the stuff. I’m really happy that they are here.”

“I’m freezing up now,” said another Secondary Four student, Kimberly Ang.

The two students had joined the contest while studying for their upcoming ‘O’ level examinations.

Organisers said they hope to have more surprise visits by bands.

Mark Richmond, Programme Director of 987FM, said: “When it comes to a surprise, it’s not just us – we are willing, but the band has to be willing as well. We are lucky, we have The Click Five.

“If there’s another band, like The Click Five, I’m more than happy to not only do this, but do it on a larger scale as well. Book somewhere and make the kids really, really happy.”

The band also visited Zhonghua Secondary School on the same day.

Three nabbed for adding maggots to supermarket meat

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Three young men in the northern Dutch town of Damwoude were charged with damaging property after adding maggots to supermarket meat that was later sold to a customer, police said Thursday.

The shopkeeper found 40 maggots after the customer complained, and identified the men, aged between 18 and 21, on a surveillance tape as they put the insect larvae into packaged meat.

Only one package of the maggot-infested meat was sold, a police spokeswoman said.

The suspects told the police that they had played a prank with bait left over from fishing. The rest of the meat in the store was destroyed.

Nokia Recalling Batteries. Please Check

Dear Friends, if you own a Nokia phone, please check your batteries. This is the reason why.

” Dear Nokia Customer,

This is a product advisory for the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia battery.

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.

Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.

Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia’s knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

While the occurrence in the BL-5C batteries produced by Matsushita in the time-period specified is very rare, for consumers wishing to do so, Nokia and Matsushita offer to replace any BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

The BL-5C batteries which are subject to the product advisory were used with the following Nokia models or separately as accessories:

Nokia 1100, Nokia 1100c, Nokia 1101, Nokia 1108, Nokia 1110, Nokia 1112, Nokia 1255, Nokia 1315, Nokia 1600, Nokia 2112, Nokia 2118, Nokia 2255, Nokia 2272, Nokia 2275, Nokia 2300, Nokia 2300c, Nokia 2310, Nokia 2355, Nokia 2600, Nokia 2610, Nokia 2610b, Nokia 2626, Nokia 3100, Nokia 3105, Nokia 3120, Nokia 3125, Nokia 6030, Nokia 6085, Nokia 6086, Nokia 6108, Nokia 6175i, Nokia 6178i, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6270, Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620, Nokia 6630, Nokia 6631, Nokia 6670, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681, Nokia 6682, Nokia 6820, Nokia 6822, Nokia 7610, Nokia N70, Nokia N71, Nokia N72, Nokia N91, Nokia E50, Nokia E60

“Nokia” and “BL-5C” are printed on the front of the battery. On the back of the battery, the Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom.

If you are interested to know if your battery is part of this product advisory, please follow the two steps below:

1) Switch off your mobile device and check the battery model. If your battery is not a BL-5C model, you are not included in this product advisory and your product will not be replaced.
