Well, spend the day with dear and we went Newton for dinner! I think the sugar cane auntie should know us by now… Since we often patronise her stall for sugar cane with lemon =p Yum Yum, one of my fav drinks… Ok, now next up is a big step for me. Conquering spice, the spice of chilli. Since young, I have never liked chilli or spicy stuff… Over the years, taking curry was alright and this was the next big step :S Not sure what got in me today to order Sambal Kang Kong!
Now for some side track…
Kang Kong’s Profile
- Kang Kong’s scientific name is Ipomoea aquatica.
- Common names include water spinach, swamp cabbage, water convolvulus, water morning-glory, kangkung (Malay), kangkong (Tagalog), tangkong (Cebuano), kang kung (Sinhalese), trawkoon , pak boong (in Thai: ผักบุ้ง) (Thai), rau muống (Vietnamese), kongxincai (Chinese: 空心菜; Pinyin: kōngxīncài; literally “hollow (kong) heart (xin) vegetable (cai)”), or ong choy (Cantonese pronunciation of Chinese: 蕹菜 ngônkcôi; Pinyin: wéngcài).
- Ipomoea aquatica grows in water or on moist soil. Its stems are 2-3 m or more long, hollow, allowing them to float, and these root at the nodes. The leaves vary from sagittate (typical) to lanceolate, 5-15 cm long and 2-8 cm broad. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, 3-5 cm diameter, usually white in colour.
- and that was wikipedia at its best… more information on Kang Kong here.
